June Hike - Quail Hill Trail Irvine

JUNE HIKE — QUAIL HILL TRAIL in IRVINE

Saturday, June 4th at 8:30 AM

Come join fellow Cornell Alums and friends for an invigorating early morning hike in the foothills of Irvine between Shady Canyon and Quail Hill.  Take advantage of the cooler morning weather in early June, to check out some nice vistas over central Irvine and enjoy a nice morning hike.


When:  Saturday, June 4th, 8:30 AM

Where:  Quail Hill Community Center -- 39 Shady Canyon Drive, Irvine, CA

Distance:  4.3 Miles Out and Back

Duration:  2.5 Hours

Difficulty:  Moderate.  500’ elevation gain on the way out and then back down on the way back.

Description:  This trail features nice views and plenty of coastal scrub, plus occasional wildlife. The trail is primarily used for hiking, biking and running, is accessible year-round, and is suitable for children 6 and older.  For those who are more adventurous, the trail continues higher into the hills up to the Serrano Ridge Viewpoint and then down to the Nix Nature Center.

 

 

Directions:  The trailhead is in the Quail Hill Community Park, at the South end of the park, and to the left of the Quail Hill Community Center (as pictured below).  Take the Sand Canyon exit from the 405 freeway, towards Quail Hill, continue through the roundabout taking the first exit onto Shady Canyon drive.  The Quail Hill Community Center will be on your left.



What to Bring:  Wear shoes with good traction and bring lots of water.  Sunscreen and a visor or hat are strongly recommended as there is no shade on this trail.  No dogs and no bikes allowed.

Those include, but are not limited to, trip and fall injuries, bee stings, poison oak exposure, and possible unpleasant interactions with mountain lions, coyotes, snakes, and/or ticks. Saturday, November 11th at 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM

What: 
Learn how to prepare several quintessential, and amazing French dishes, all from a private chef!
 
Chef Rick Boufford of the ex: Black Sheep Bistro restaurant in Tustin will show us how to prepare several appetizers with a series of sauces, Lamb Daddies, grilled potatoes and asparagus, plus Gateau au Chocolate for dessert.  It’s a hands on class, and we eat what we create!  This is a very fun and social event for up to 16 participants.


Cost:  $60 per person

Where: This event is hosted by Chick and Susan Marshall at their home in Orange.  The event address will be emailed out to those who have signed up on Eventbrite.  

Learn to MakeAppetizers: Fresh Goat Cheese, Grilled Wild Shrimp.  Main Course: Lamb Daddies (a demonstration on boning them and then options on how to use both the NY and Filet Mignon sections).  Asparagus plus steamed potatoes grilled.  All of the above with Aioli and La Rouille sauces).  Dessert: Gateau au Chocolate with freshly made Chocolate Sauce.
