We are excited to continue our Business Luncheon series with our guest speaker, Mr. Bob Funari, who has had a stellar career in healthcare. Mr. Funari will give us a rare insight into this often not-well understood industry, discussing the current healthcare situation, issues and opportunities. Highlights of his speech include:

• How healthcare drives our long term debt crisis

• Evidence that the healthcare delivery system is badly broken

• The three major challenges facing U.S. healthcare

• Examples of positive responses to these challenges

• The Accountable Care Act aka Obamacare, its impacts on individuals and Medicare and whether it can respond to the current challenges

Speaker Bio:
Mr. Bob Funari is a renowned expert with broad experience in both healthcare services and medical devices.  He began his career in 1975 at Baxter International, a $12 billion medical devices company, where he held several high profile positions ranging from Vice President to President of several divisions. In 1993, he became the Chairman and CEO of Syncor International, a $920 million provider of specialized pharmacy services with 4,200 employess in 225 locations. During his tenure, he increased Syncor’s EPS from $.06 in 1994 to $1.41 in 2001 while revenues grew from $240 million to $920 million. Between 1996 and 2002, Syncor’s share price increased by over 30% per year.

Between 2004 to 2011, Mr. Funari acted as the Chairman and CEO of Crescent Healthcare, a $175 million provider of specialized infusion therapy services. He oversaw a significant financial turnaround in the company from 2005 ($4.6mm loss) to 2010 ($11.0mm profit), which allowed him to be recognized as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010 – Successful Turnaround Category.

Mr. Funari is currently holding a position as Chairman and Interim CEO with DCRX Infusion, where he has led a successful turnaround following an 80% reduction in Medicare reimbursement for IDPN and IPN therapies.

Throughout his career, he has served as a Board Member (mostly as the Chair) of several  organizations in a variety of industries, ranging from healthcare to financial services, including non-profit organizations. Among the companies he served as Board Member are Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Beckman Coulter, First Consulting Group, Los Angeles Chambers Orchestra and Pope and Talbot.

Mr. Funari holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Distinction in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University (1969) and a Master of Business Administration degree with High Distinction from Harvard University (1975).
